Orestes Cleveland

(March 2, 1829 — March 30, 1896) Cleveland was a businessman and politician. Orestes Cleveland was born in Schenectady County, New York and moved to Jersey City, New Jersey in 1845. Cleveland was involved in various businesses including manufacturing of lead, stove polish, pencils, and fiber. He served as mayor of Jersey City from 1864 to 1866, and again from 1886 to 1891. Cleveland was elected as a Democrat to the United States House of Representatives and served from March 4, 1869 to March 3, 1871.
