The Civil Rights Act of 1875

(31 January, 1820 -- 5 October, 1887) Washburn was an American politician. Born in Winchendon, Worcester County, Mass., Washburn was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-eighth and to the four succeeding Congresses and served from March 4th, 1863 to December 5th, 1871 when he was elected governor (1872-1874). After his resignation, Washburn was elected as a Republican to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Charles Sumner and served from April 17th, 1874 to March 3th, 1875.
