(March 20, 1831 — September 22, 1881) Spink was a lawyer, editor, publisher, and politician. Solomon Spink was born in Washington County, New York and moved to the Dakota Territory in 1865 after practicing law in Iowa and being editor and publisher to a publication in Illinois. While in Illinois, Spink also served as a member of the State House of Representatives in 1864. He moved to the Dakota Territory after being appointed by President Lincoln to be the Secretary for the Territory (1865-1869). Spink was elected as a Republican, serving from March 4, 1869 to March 3, 1871.
