(1 April, 1815 -- 2 September, 1884) Anthony was an American editor and politician. Born in Coventry, R.I., Anthony was the editor of the Providence Journal in 1838, later becoming one of its owners. Anthony was elected Governor of Rhode Island in 1849 and was reelected in 1850. Anthony was elected as a Republican to the United States Senate in 1858 and reelected in 1864, 1870, 1876 and 1882. Dixon was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-first Congress and later as a Republican to the Thirty-eighth and to the three succeeding Congresses. (3 November, 1799-- 19 October, 1856) Sprague was an American politician. Born in Cranston, R.I., Sprague was a the speaker of the State house of representatives from 1832 to 1835. Sprague was elected as a Whig to the Twenty-fourth Congress and was elected as governor of Rhode Island from 1838 to 1839. Afterwards, Sprague was elected as a Whig to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Nathan F. Dixon.
