Edward D. Holbrook Visualize "(May 6, 1836 -- June 17, 1870) Edward Dexter Holbrook was a lawyer and American politician. Holbrook was born in Elyria, Lorain County, Ohio. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1859. He was elected as a Democrat to the 39th and 40th Congress (March 4, 1865 - March 3, 1869). He was censured by the U.S. House of Representatives (February 4, 1869) for use of unparliamentary language and was not reelected in the 41st Congress. He was shot by Charles H. Douglas and died from his wounds.
