Charles D. Poston Visualize "(April 20, 1825 - April 26, 1925) Poston was a clerk, lawyer, and public servant. Poston was born near Elizabethtown, Kentucky April 20, 1825, and moved to Arizona in 1854. Charles Poston was clerk in the Hardin County clerk's office, clerk in the Supreme Court at Nashville Tennessee, and clerk at the customhouse at San Francisco (1850-1853). He was appointed by President Lincoln as the Superintendent of Indian Affairs and was a civilian aide to General Heintzelman in 1863. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1867. He was appointed as a register in the US land office in Arizona in 1878, by President Hayes. He was then a consular agent in Texas. Poston was elected for the newly created territory of Arizona on Dec. 5th, 1864 and served until March 3, 1865, as a Republican in the Thirty-eighth Congress. He was not reelected in 1864.
