Born in Perry, Ohio, he was admitted to the bar in 1852 and commenced practice in Ashland, Ohio before moving to Iowa in 1857. Allison was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-eighth and to the three succeeding Congresses. Later, Allison was elected as a Republican to the United States Senate in 1872; reelected in 1878, 1884, 1890, 1896, and again in 1902, and served from March 4, 1873 until his death on August 4, 1908. James W. Grimes Visualize (20 October, 1816 -- 7 February, 1872) Grimes was an American lawyer and politician. Born in Deering, N.H., Grimes moved west after studying law. Grimes was a member of the Iowa territorial house of representatives 1838-1839 and 1843-1844. Grimes also served as governor of Iowa from 1854 to 1858. Grimes was then elected as a Republican to the United States Senate in 1859 and was reelected in 1865 and served until he resigned due to poor health. Josiah B. Grinnell Visualize (22 December, 1821 -- 31 March, 1891) Grinnell was an American pastor, lawyer, businessman and politician. Born in New Haven, Addison County, Vt., Grinnell moved to Iowa in 1851. While living there, Grinnell founded the town of Grinnell, Poweshiek County, and also Grinnell University. From 1856 to 1860, Grinnell was a member of the State senate. In 1858, Grinnell completed his study of law and was admitted to the bar. Grinnell was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-eighth and Thirty-ninth Congresses serving from March 4th, 1863 to March 3rd, 1867. James Harlan Visualize (26 August, 1820 -- 5 October, 1899) Harlan was an American lawyer and politician. Born in Clark County, Ill., Harlan moved to Iowa in 1845. In 1850, Harlan was admitted to the bar and practiced in Iowa City. Harlan was elected as a Free Soiler to the United States Senate in 1855, was reelected in 1860, and served from January 29, 1857 until May 15, 1865. Harlan resigned to accept an appointment as Secretary of the Interior in the Cabinet of President Andrew Johnson from May 15, 1865 to July 27, 1866. After resigning from this position, Harlan again was elected to the United States Senate and served from March 4, 1867 to March 3, 1873. Asahel W. Hubbard Visualize (19 January, 1819 -- 22 September, 1879) Hubbard was an American lawyer, businessman, and politician. Born in Haddam, Conn., Hubbard moved to Indiana in 1838 to study law. In 1841, Hubbard was admitted to the bar and began practice in Rushville, Indiana. Additionally, Hubbard was a member of the Indiana house of representatives from 1847 to 1849. In 1857, Hubbard moved to Iowa and was the judge of the fourth judicial district from 1859 to 1862. Hubbard was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-eighth, Thirty-ninth, and Fortieth Congresses, serving from March 4, 1863 to March 3, 1869. John A. Kasson Visualize (11 January, 1822 -- May 18, 1910) Kasson was an American lawyer and politician. Born in Charlotte, Chittenden County, Vt., Kasson studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1842. Kasson practiced in St. Louis, Mo. until 1857 when he moved to Iowa. Kasson was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-eighth and Thirty-ninth Congresses serving from March 4, 1863 to March 3, 1867. Kasson was later elected to the Forty-third and Forty-fourth Congresses then the Forty-seventh and Forty-eighth Congresses. Hiram Price Visualize (10 January, 1814 -- 30 May, 1901) Price was an American businessman and politician. Born in Washington County, Pa. Price moved to Iowa in 1844. Price was president of the State Bank of Iowa from 1859 to 1866 and became president of the First National Bank of Davenport in 1873. Price was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-eighth, Thirty-ninth, and Fortieth Congresses. Later, Price was appointed United States Commissioner of Indian Affairs during the administration of President Garfield and served from May 6, 1881 to March 27, 1885. James F. Wilson Visualize (19 October, 1828 -- 22 April, 1895) Wilson was an American lawyer and politician. Born in Newark, Licking County, Ohio, Wilson studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1851, practicing in Newark, Ohio. Wilson moved to Jefferson County, Iowa, in 1853, and was a member of the constitutional convention in 1857. Wilson was a member of the State house of representatives in 1857 and 1859. Additionally he was a member of the State senate from 1859 to 1861. Wilson was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-seventh Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Samuel R. Curtis; he was reelected to the Thirty-eighth, Thirty-ninth, and Fortieth Congresses and served from October 8, 1861 to March 3, 1869. Later, Wilson was elected as a Republican to the United States Senate in 1882; he was reelected in 1888 and served from March 4, 1883 to March 3, 1895.
