Description

Sunningdale agreement, under the Northern Ireland Assembly Act of May 1973, aimed to restore devolved government in Northern Ireland. In the general election of February 1974, 11 out of 12 constituencies in Northern Ireland were won by the United Ulster Unionist Council, a coalition of anti-Sunningdale Unionists. The Ulster Workers Council then called a general strike, and on the 28th of May 1974, the Northern Ireland Assembly and Executive collapsed.
