"(March 7, 1821 -- April 23, 1886) Stephen Taber was a farmer, public servant, president of a company and bank, director of a railroad company, and was a American Politician. Taber was born in Dover, Dutchess County, New York. He was a member of the state assembly in 1860 and 1861. He assisted in organizing the Long Island North Shore Transportation Company in 1861 and served as its president. He was a director of the Long Island Railroad Company and president of the Roslyn Savings Bank in 1876. Steven was elected as a Democrat to the 39th and 40th Congresses (March 4, 1865 - March 3, 1869) and was not reelected.
