The Civil Rights Act of 1875

(January 1, 1832 — May 29, 1909) Crittenden was an American politician and lawyer. Thomas Theodore Crittenden was born in Shelbyville, Kentucky in 1832 and moved to Missouri in 1858. He graduated from Centre College and was admitted to the bar in 1858. During the Civil War, Crittenden served in the Union Army and attained the rank of captain and later lieutenant colonel. He was elected as a Democrat to the United States House of Representatives and served from March 4, 1873 to March 3, 1875. After an unsuccessful campaign for reelection, Crittenden took a break from politics until 1876 when he was again elected to the Forty-Fifth Congress and served from March 4, 1877 to March 3, 1879.
