John K. Luttrell

The Civil Rights Act of 1875

(June 27, 1831 — October 4, 1893) Luttrell was a farmer, miner, and lawyer. John Luttrell was born in Knox County, Tennessee and moved to California in 1852 to become a miner and agriculturalist. Luttrell studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1856. While in California, he served as sergeant-at-arms of the State Assembly from 1865-1866, and member of the State House of Representatives from 1871-1872. He was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-Third, Forty-Fourth, and Forty-Fifth Congresses. He served in Congress from March 4, 1873 to March 3, 1879.
