John T. Stuart

United States Thirteenth Amendment 1863-65

(10 November, 1807 -- 28 November, 1885) Stuart was an American lawyer and politician. Born in Lexington, Ky., Stuart was admitted to the bar in 1828 and began practice in Springfield, Illinois. Stuart became a law partner of Abraham Lincoln, was a major in the Black Hawk War in 1832, and was a member of the State house of representatives from 1832 to 1836. Stuart was elected as a Whig to the Twenty-sixth and Twenty-seventh Congresses and elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-eighth Congress.
