John B. Henderson

United States Thirteenth Amendment 1863-65

(16 November, 1826 -- 12 April, 1913) Henderson was an American lawyer and politician. Born in Pittsylvania County, Va., Henderson moved with his parents to Missouri and studied on his own while a farm hand, passing the bar in 1844. Henderson was a member of the State house of representatives and was appointed and subsequently elected to the United States Senate as a Unionist to fill the vacancy caused by the expulsion of Trusten Polk.
