(20 July 1737–16 April 1804) Surveyor, legislator, and U.S. Senator.

During the American Revolution, he served in the Continental Army as a commissary. His most important contribution was the keeping of a diary, which provides insight into the politics of the First Federal Congress as it implemented the Constitution.
