James Schureman

United States Bill of Rights 1789 (2021 Edition)

(February 12, 1756 – January 22, 1824) Merchant, soldier, member of the Continental Congress as well as the U.S.House of Representatives and Senate.

After completing his studies, Schureman founded a volunteer militia and served as its captain while working as a merchant. He served on the New Jersey General Assembly, the Continental Congress, and at the Annapolis Convention. He was also elected to the House of Representatives as a member of the First, Ninth, and Fourteenth Congresses and was elected to the Senate in 1799.
