The Civil Rights Act of 1875

(October 5, 1825 — October 4, 1885) Clayton was a miller, and state and federal politician. Charles Clayton was born in Derbyshire, England and immigrated to the United States, settling in Santa Clara, California. While in California, he founded Santa Clara Flour Mills and served as a member of the State Assembly, among other positions. He was elected as a Republican to the Forty-Third Congress from March 4, 1873 to March 3, 1875.
