Edward Crossland

The Civil Rights Act of 1875

(June 30, 1827 — September 11, 1881) Crossland was a judge, lawyer, and politician. Edward Crossland was born in Hickman County, Kentucky in 1827, where he later studied law and was admitted to the bar. He served as sheriff of Hickman County from 1851 to 1852, and as a member of the State House of Representatives from 1857 to 1858. Crossland served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War and attained the rank of captain. After the war, he was elected as a judge of the court of common pleas for the first judicial district of Kentucky and served in that capacity for three years from 1867 to 1870. Crossland was elected as a Democrat to the United States House of Representatives and served from March 4, 1871 to March 3, 1875.
