The Civil Rights Act of 1875

(January 6, 1827 — March 19, 1911) Harris was an American politician and lawyer. George Emrick Harris was born in Orange County, North Carolina and moved to Mississippi. There he studied law and was admitted to he bar in 1854. During the Civil War, Harris was a lieutenant colonel in the Confederate Army. Harris was elected as a Republican to the United States House of Representatives and served from February 23, 1870 to March 3, 1873. Harris also served in numerous state public offices including district attorney, State attorney general, and Lieutenant Governor.
