The Civil Rights Act of 1875

(April 9, 1830 — June 26, 1890) John Montgomery Crebs was an American politician and lawyer. Crebs was born in Middleburg, Virginia in 1830 and moved to Illinois with his parents in 1837. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1852. During the Civil War, he enlisted in the Union Army and served as a lieutenant colonel. He also served in a brigade of Calvary in the Department of the Gulf. Crebs was elected as a Democrat to the United States House of Representatives and served from March 4, 1869 to March 3, 1873. After his service in Congress, he practiced law until his death in 1890.
