United States Fifteenth Amendment

"(January 2, 1828 -- March 6, 1891) George Miles Chilcott was a(n) sheriff, public servant, lawyer, register, and American politician. He was born close to Cassville, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania and moved to Iowa, Nebraska, and then Colorado. George studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1863. He was sheriff of Jefferson County, Iowa (1853), member of the Nebraska territorial house of representatives (1856), member of the Colorado territorial council (1861-1862), register of the United States land office (1863 - 1867), and member of the Colorado state house of representatives (1878). Chilcott was elected as a Republican Delegate to the 40th Congress (March 4, 1867 - March 3, 1869). He was appointed to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by Henry Teller's resignation (April 17, 1882 - January 27, 1883).
