The Civil Rights Act of 1875

"(September 17, 1818 -- April 30, 1889) William Henry Barnum was a(n) iron founder, public servant, and American politician. Barnum was born in Boston Corner, Columbia County, New York and moved to Connecticut. He was a member of the State house of representatives (1851-1852). Barnum was elected as a Democrat to the 40th, 41st, 42nd, 43rd, and 44th Congresses (March 4, 1867 - May 18,1876) when he resigned to become a Senator. He served as a Senator to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Orris S. Ferry (May 18, 1876 - March 3, 1879), where he served as chair for the Democratic National Committee (1876-1889).
