"(April 22, 1829 -- January 1, 1870) Benjamin Franklin Hopkins was a(n) telegraph operator, secretary, public servant and American politician. He was born in Hebron, New York and moved to Wisconsin in 1849. Hopkins was a private secretary to Governor Bashfourd (1856 and 1857), served in the state senate (1862 and 1863), and member of the state assembly (1866).
