[Substitute Proposition Number 64 as Amended by the Committee of the Whole]

[Sec. 1. There is hereby established the office of Mine Inspector.

The Legislature, at its first session, shall enact laws so regulating the operation and equipment of mines as to provide for the health and safety of workers therein, and in connection therewith, and fixing the duties of a mine inspector.

Upon the approval of such laws by the Governor, the Governor shall forthwith appoint a Mine Inspector, who shall have the duties prescribed by such laws.

Said Mine Inspector shall serve until his successor shall qualify. Said successor and all subsequent incumbents of said office shall be elected at general elections, and shall serve for two years.]
