1. The Secretary of State's objectives at this meeting might be to:

a) establish as clearly as possible the terms on which the Unionist leaders might be prepared to enter fresh talks, starting in the New Year; and

b) bring home to them the need to acknowledge the three-stranded nature of the talks process.
