The seventh day of the Strand 2 Plenary session. The draft minute of the sixth Plenary meeting is agreed; the Chairman reports from the Business Committee; the delegation leaders agree the text of a statement on confidentiality; the British Government and the DUP are questioned on their opening statements; a media release is agreed.
CHAIRMAN'S STATEMENT ON CONFIDENTIALITY
All six parties to these talks today joined in denouncing the so-called "leaks" that had occurred. The "leaks" are not only inaccurate and misleading but also put the whole talks process in jeopardy. They come from tainted sources, from people who blithely disregard their undertaking to observe confidentiality and put personal or political advantage above the common good.
The two Governments and four political parties believe these talks can only succeed if strict confidentiality is preserved. Those who seek to destroy that confidentiality are at the same time destroying the prospects of success.
