Joint Resolution amendatory of the Constitution of the U.S

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the following articles be proposed to the several States as amendments to the Constitution of the United States [,] which when duly ratified by the requisite number of States shall be valid as a part of said Constitution –

Sec 1. Slavery and involuntary servitude, except for the punishment of crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, is forever prohibited in the United States and all its Territories.
