Wyoming State Constitutional Convention 1889

The Wyoming Constitution Convention began September 2, 1889 without the authorization from an enabling act. The articles were individually voted on, creating the final Constitution of Wyoming on September 30, 1889. It was later ratified on November 5, 1889.

Salaries of Public Officers

Article

Sec. 1. All state and county officers shall be paid a fixed and definite salary.

Sec. 2. The Governor of the State of Wyoming shall receive a salary of not less than four thousand dollars nor more than six thousand dollars per annum.

The Secretary of the State of Wyoming shall receive a salary of not less than two thousand four hundred dollars nor more than three thousand six hundred dollars per annum.

The Auditor of the State of Wyoming shall receive a salary of not less than two thousand four hundred dollars nor more than three thousand six hundred dollars per annum.

The Treasurer of the State of Wyoming shall receive a salary of not less than two thousand dollars and not more than three thousand dollars per annum.

The Superintendent of Public Instruction for the State of Wyoming shall receive a salary of not less than $__________ and not more than $__________ per annum.

The Examiner of the State of Wyoming shall receive a salary of not less than $__________ nor more than $__________ per annum and ten (10) cents per mile for every mile necessary traveled in the performance of the duties of his office.

Sec. 3. The Judges of the Supreme Court of the State of Wyoming shall receive a salary of not less than three thousand dollars, nor more than five thousand dollars per annum.

The Judges of the District Courts of the State of Wyoming shall receive a salary of not less than three thousand dollars, nor more than four thousand dollars per annum.

Until otherwise provided for by the General Assembly of the State of Wyoming, the salaries of the State Officers, Judges of the Supreme Court and Judges of the District Courts shall be the minimum amount, as fixed by this Article.

Sec. 4. County Officers shall receive such salaries as the General Assembly of the State of Wyoming may provide. Provided that no Officer in any County shall receive a larger amount than $3000.00 per annum.

The General Assembly shall further provide by law, a scale of fees to be charged and collected by said County Officers, and when so collected, shall be [illegible] into the Treasury of the County in which they were collected.

The General Assembly shall provide by Law for salary or fees for all precinct, city, town or school officers.
