Wyoming State Constitutional Convention 1889

The Wyoming Constitution Convention began September 2, 1889 without the authorization from an enabling act. The articles were individually voted on, creating the final Constitution of Wyoming on September 30, 1889. It was later ratified on November 5, 1889.

Sec II

The Legislature shall provide for the maintain-ance and support of a thorough and efficient system of public schools, wherein all the children of the State over six years of age may be educated, and shall appropriate such sum which with the tax collected for school open at least six months annually. And no money appropriated, or raised by taxation shall be used for sectarian schools, or for any school under the care and patronage of any branch of the Church.
